Evidence
I do not know how Negro Woman “Luck” ended up with Benjamin in Pittsylvania County, Virginia since his mother and step father had given “Luck” to Benjamin’s sister. Perhaps he traded slaves with his step sister. Nevertheless this proves that the Benjamin Thrasher in the 1767 list of tithables in Pittsylvania County, Virginia was the son of Benjamin Thrasher and Mary Hook of Prince Georges (later Frederick) County, Maryland.

Since no record of any other person named Benjamin Thrasher has been found in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, it is reasonable to conclude that the groom in the 1785 marriage of Benjamin Thrasher and Sarah White in Pittsylvania County, Virginia must be the son of Benjamin Thrasher and Mary Hook of Maryland.

That conclusion is reinforced by transcribed Bible records1910 ,that specifically state that the groom in the Benjamin Thrasher/Sarah White marriage was born on 8 October 1740. That date is compatible with what is known about Benjamin’s possible birth date based on the probate of his father’s estate and the birth dates of his older siblings.

Many family trees on Ancestry.com and other Internet sites state that other persons were the parents of the Benjamin Thrasher who married Sarah White. However, I have yet to find any of them that has evidence that a) their proposed parents had a child named Benjamin, b) if so that he was the Benjamin Thrasher who married Sarah White.
