NameGeorge E. Kempke
Birthabt 1875, NY
FatherGeorge F. Kempke (-<1890)
Misc. Notes
A difficulty in determining the ancestry of George Kempke is that his name just does not come up often in public records. The only pertinent record that I have found is the following entry in the 1905 New York State census:

1890 Buffalo, New York Directory
George E. Kempke, 223 Bryant, Bookkeeper
Mary G. Kempke, 223 Bryant, Teacher
Mrs. Sophia Kempke, 223 Bryant
Charles F. Kempke, 164 Genesee, Undertaker

1905 New York State Census, Ward 21, Buffalo, Erie County, NY.p.38, household at 104 Cottage Street.
George Kempke, Lodger, 30, Bookkeeper

I suspect that this is “our” George. After viewing thousands of census records over the last 40 years I have learned that small spelling errors are common. Also, the age should be taken with a grain of salt. After reaching age 21, some people had a tendency to pretend they were younger as the years went by.

See Ida Louise Kempke for a discussion of her and therefore George’s ancestry.
